How to pack for a long backpacking trip – Hot climate

Packing time

Make sure you have what you need, for anywhere you go. Find your main bag/backpack, and Waterproof Packing Organizers (packing folders, packing bags) Remember If you won’t wear it more than three times, don’t bring it! Pack light, wash frequently, buy it if you need it. Limit yourself to one carry-on if you can.


  • Floss / Toothpaste / Toothbrush
  • Razor
  • Mascara + fundation (but only if you plan to go out and party) super optional
  • Mini Scissors / Nail clippers
  • Shampoo + conditioner (ex “Add water” – pocket dry leaves)
  • Cotton Balls / Swabs
  • Hair Brush
  • Sunscreen IMPORTANT (its more expensive in your destination)
  • GIRLS Few Tampons/pads (only few in case of emergency, otherwise buy at local store)

  • Safety pins
  • Mini Sewing kit
  • Band aids
  • Multiple Wet wipes
  • Medications: Diarrhea, Pain & Fever Relievers, throat tablets
  • Earplugs (very important for hostels)
  • Lipbalm


  • Adapter plugs
  • Phone + charger + headphones
  • Camera + charger
  • SD card reader + extra card
  • Headlamp
  • Extra Batteries
  • iPad or Kindle (instead of laptop)
  • USB stick

Packing time

  • Money
  • Passport / Diving license / Youth/student card
  • Spare passport photos for Visas
  • Credit / ATM cards (few is better then one in case of any card problems)
  • Printed Itinerary + flights confirmation + Directions
  • Guidebook or better its electronic version
  • Travel Insurance info
  • Int. Vaccination Card


  • Pen + Little notebook
  • Clothesline
  • Travel Locks & Keys (very important in hostels)
  • Backpack / Daybag
  • Money Belt
  • Sunglasses
  • Few Hair-ties
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Microfiber towel
  • Small Tripod
  • Duct tape
  • Fold-able Water Bottle
  • Silk Sleep sheet (worth bringing if you are planning to stay at the hostels) Good bedbug protection.
  • Ziplock bags

This actually seems like a lot, but many of these items are really small


Wearing on you while traveling:
  • Sweatpants
  • T-shirt, Blazer
  • Sports Shoes – walking shoes with good grip
  • Socks
  • Light Hat / Bandanna


  • 3 pairs of socks
  • 2 x T-Shirts / 3 x Tank Tops
  • 1 Long sleeve shirt
  • Scarf or Sarong
  • Casual Shoes or Sandals
  • Sleepwear
  • Extra Blazer or fleece
  • Flip flops
  • 1 Long or short Dress – depending on the country
  • Swimsuit / bikini
  • 2 x Bras & 5 x underwear
  • Cardigan

TIP: Print and keep a copy of your packing checklist with your luggage for further reference.

Security: Bury copies of your passport, plane ticket, and prescriptions in the bottom of your luggage. (preferably hidden compartment )

A week before your trip, pack your bag with everything you think you want to take, and carry it around to see how it feel.
